Description:

BTIF is a FedNor-funded initiative which assists SMEs in the Blue Sky Net region within Northeastern Ontario to develop their capacity for business technology and their ability for technology adoption. The BTIF grant helps to alleviate the costs of implementing innovative technology solutions.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $5,000 to adopt broadband and e-business and marketing solutions and up to $25,000.00 to acquire digital technology such as software.

In each scenario the applicant is required to contribute a minimum 50% toward the project.
Reimbursements are provided after proof of payment (processed cheque, cancelled cheque, receipt, etc.) and invoices are submitted.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Be SMEs
  • be located in Northeastern Ontario within the Blue Sky Net service region,
  • Be an established full-time business
  • Have been in operation for at least one year.
  • have a valid Canadian business number.

Established seasonal businesses are eligible.

Eligible SMEs targeted under the program could include, but are not limited to those which fall under the following industry sector categories:

  • Advanced Manufacturing;
  • Agri-Food;
  • Health/Bio-Sciences;
  • Clean Technology;
  • Digital;
  • Tourism;
  • Resources.

Applications Steps:

Applicants must follow the five-step application process:

Complete and submit the BTIF Step1: Application.

A consultation between the applicant and the program coordinator will be scheduled to review, discuss and to advise on the application and project proposal.

The applicant will be responsible for obtaining projects quotes which must be submitted to Blue Sky Net for review and feedback.

The applicant will be provided the BTIF Step 4: Pre-Agreement document for their review and submission.

A final overall evaluation will be conducted by Blue Sky Net for the applicant’s file. If approved, the applicant will receive a Letter of Offer document which outlines the financial details of the approved grant in addition to project deadlines.

Applicants must not begin their projects until they have received approval from Blue Sky Net.
