The Literary Publishers component of Supporting Artistic Practice provides grants to Canadian publishers of literary books and magazines committed to developing and promoting Canadian literary writers through the publishing process.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a grant of up to:

  • $250,000 per year for book publishers;
  • $120,000 per year for magazine publishers; and
  • $300,000 per year for book and magazine publishers.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be Canadian literary book and creative writing magazine publishers.

The applicant must:

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:

  1. a financial summary (2 past, current and 2 future years);
  2. financial statements;
  3. a blank sample contract with writers;
  4. appendix on titles/writers and activities;

Applicant (book publishers) must submit:

  1. eligible literary titles published during the last cycle, up to a maximum of 20 (by mail, postmarked on or before the deadline date);
  2. catalogue; and
  3. appendix with eligible titles and support activities, past and upcoming.

Applicant (magazine publishers) must submit:

  1. for print magazines – 8 copies of 4 magazine issues published in the last cycle (by mail, postmarked on or before the deadline date);
  2. for electronic magazines –hyperlinks to 4 magazine issues published in the last cycle;
  3. a fee schedule for writers; and
  4. appendix with writers and activities, past and upcoming.
