The Seed component of the five-year Strategic Innovation Fund (2021-2026) provides seed funding to kickstart small-scale innovation activities that explore and develop capacity, partnerships, and promising innovation ideas.

Funding will take the form of a grant of up to $25,000.

Applicants must be:

  • artists and arts professionals, 
  • cultural connectors,
  • artistic groups and collectives,
  • artistic organizations,
  • First Nations, Inuit and Métis artists, arts/cultural professionals, cultural carriers, groups, collectives, and organizations.

Organizations presently receiving core grants are eligible to apply to this component.

Applications Steps:


The applicant must register in the portal at least 30 days before applying. Please note that profile validation can take up to 15 business days.


Applicant's eligibility is determined by the validated profile created in the portal.


Applications must be submitted any time before the start date of the project.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must provide the following:

    description of their project and what they hope to achieve,
  2. 2
    budget including budget notes,
  3. 3
    list of confirmed key team members and their roles (budget appendix),
  4. 4
    detailed work plan, including timeline,
  5. 5
    letters of engagement from partners (optional support material),
  6. 6
    executive summaries of relevant studies or research (optional support material). 

Note: The maximum number of pages for support material is 3 pages in total.

    The five-year Strategic Innovation Fund aims to strengthen and transform the arts sector. The Fund supports rebuilding and transformation projects and partnerships that contribute to a more resilient, sustainable, connected, accessible, and equitable arts sector.

    The Fund includes three main components to help seed, cultivate and grow your idea.
  3. 3
    From 2021 to 2026, the Council will invest $200+ million in an innovative rebuilding of the arts sector. Our Strategic Innovation Fund will offer you access to grants, partnerships, outreach events and resources. The aim is to build the capacity of artists, arts professionals, arts groups, collectives and organizations to try new ideas, share knowledge, find networks, create prototypes and scale up ambitious solutions.
