Canada’s Ocean Supercluster – Ocean Startup Challenge

The Ocean Startup Challenge helps turn entrepreneurial ideas or technology into a wave of opportunity! With the world’s longest coastline, globally-renowned experts, research facilities, a steady flow of talent, and ample government programming and supports, Canada is the right place to start and grow a successful ocean tech company. For 2022, the Ocean Startup Challenge is focusing on idea/early stage ocean startups with a TRL of 4 and below, and supporting innovators who are leveraging Canadian ocean assets and capabilities to develop technologies that can be applied to global ocean problems.
Comments on Funding:
Funding will take the form of awards of up to $40,000.
Eligibility:
Applicants must:
- be entrepreneurs or teams early in their development;
- be in the pre-revenue, pre-institutional investment stage;
- not have sold any products prior to application deadline;
- be Canadian-based entities;
- be TRL 4 or lower:
a) Level 1 – Basic principles of concept are observed and reported;
b) Level 2 – Technology concept and/or application formulated;
c) Level 3 – Analytical and experimental critical function and/ or proof of concept;
d) Level 4 – Component and/or validation in a laboratory environment;
6) have been in operation for less than three years, and have less than five full-time employees;
7) be the majority owners of the company.
Past winners of the Ocean Startup Challenge are not eligible.
