CENGN – Next Generation Network Program (NGNP) – Rural Ontario Residential Broadband Program under CENGN Projects: Residential Broadband Program


Under the Next Generation Network Program (NGNP), CENGN is looking to fund innovative projects across Rural Ontario that demonstrate technology solutions that offer flexible, lower cost, higher performance residential broadband access for Rural Ontario communities. These live technology projects will be funded for 3-6 months, designed to test new technologies and validate business case solutions to improve high-speed internet access to residences within Rural Ontario communities.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $500,000 to each Broadband project.


The applicant must:

  • be a Canadian-based SME,
  • have less than 500 employees, and less than $50M in annual revenue,
  • have a product which is either in market now, or is approaching the end of development.

The company can make productive use of the CENGN testbed to advance its commercialization efforts.

1. The Government of Ontario Funds the Next Generation Network Program (NGNP). As a part of the NGNP the CENGN Residential Broadband Program provides up to $500,000 of funding to each Broadband project.
2. CENGN is the organization  entrusted to deliver NGNP and the CENGN Residential Broadband Program.
3. No deadline found. At least 2 more Rural Ontario Residential Broadband Projects will be announced over the next 8 months.
4. The Next Generation Network Program (NGNP) fosters industry collaboration, provides access to ultra-high-speed network connectivity, and supports innovation in information and communications technology (ICT) for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Ontario. The NGNP connects CENGN’s digital infrastructure to innovation hubs across Ontario, allowing SMEs, start-ups and researchers unprecedented access to a state-of-the-art, multi-vendor, open-platform testbed and services to validate innovative products and solutions. This enables the NGNP to assist over 150 Ontario businesses in commercializing their solutions on a global scale.
