Description:

The Commercial District Revitalization Grant Program (the Program) provides funds that will support long-lasting and predominantly exterior physical improvements to the appearance, accessibility and environmental sustainability of commercial or mixed-use commercial properties located within strategic commercial districts, including Business Improvement Areas (BIA), whose visibility and long-term success contributes to Hamilton’s image for both residents and visitors.

Comments on Funding:

The maximum Grant amount under this Program is paid on a matching basis (50%-50%) for eligible work to a maximum of:

  1. 1
    $10,000 per municipal address applying to a commercial space/building or
  2. 2
    $12,500 per municipal address applying to a corner commercial space/building; or for properties located within a BIA and eligible CIPA with the exception of dormant BIAs as defined by the Dormant Business Improvement Area Status.

Eligible interior improvements shall not exceed:

  1. 1
    $5,000 of the total Grant provided; or
  2. 2
    50% of the eligible maximum grant when located within an active BIA.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be Hamilton businesses located within strategic commercial districts whose visibility and long-term success contributes to Hamilton’s image for both residents and visitors (located within the Ancaster, Barton Village, Binbrook, Concession Street, Downtown Hamilton, Dundas, Locke Street, Ottawa Street, Stoney Creek, Waterdown and Westdale Commercial District CIPAs, the Mount Hope/Airport Gateway CIPA and the Strategic Commercial Corridor CIPAs as collectively defined through the RHCD CIPA Bylaw);
  • be commercial or mixed-use commercial properties in need of exterior physical improvements to the appearance, accessibility and environmental sustainability;
  • meet the goals of the Revitalizing Hamilton’s Commercial Districts Community Improvement Plan (RHCD CIP). 

Applications Steps:

Applicants must submit:

the completed application form;

pay the administration fee:

  • $105.00 Administration Fee for Grants of $5,000 or less;
  •  $275.00 Administration Fee for grants less than or equal to $12,500 & Greater than $5,000;
  • $430.00 Administration Fee for grants greater than $12,500 to accompany Application.

A detailed Letter of Understanding will be executed and returned to the appropriate agent of the City if a grant is approved and prior to any disbursement of funding under the terms of the grant.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:

    Completed Application Form;
  2. 2
    Payment of Application Fee;
  3. 3
    Two (2) dated estimates for each of the works being proposed for funding;
  4. 4
    If the tenant of the property is the applicant, written authorization of the Owner that the applicant is authorized to make the application must be included with this application.

     Articles of Incorporation Documents, if applicable;
  6. 6
    Articles of Amendment, if applicable; 
  7. 7
    Partnership Agreement Documents, if applicable;
  8. 8
    Shareholders Registry (i.e. List of Shareholders and their respective percentage ownership), if applicable;
  9. 9
    list of Applicant’s Officers and Directors, if applicable;
  10. 10
    Anticipated start date for construction as well as anticipated completion date;
  11. 11
    Photos demonstrating state of property prior to construction/renovation taking place. Hard copies of photos are to be date stamped.
