Description:
The Eco-Roof Incentive Program provides grants to support the installation of green roofs and cool roofs on Toronto homes and buildings.
Green roofs and cool roofs – known collectively as ‘eco-roofs’ – help make Toronto more resilient and better adapted to climate change. Green roofs, also known as living roofs or vegetated roofs, support the growth of vegetation.
Comments on Funding:
Funding is $100 / m2 installed.City staff are able to approve funding requests up to $100,000 for green roof projects.

Applicants must own:
All green roof projects must be designed and constructed in conformance with the Toronto Green Roof Construction Standard (Article IV of the Green Roof Bylaw PDF).

Documentation Needed:
Applicants must submit:
- the completed and compliant Eco-Roof application form;
- detailed plans of the proposal showing percentage coverage, plant material and type of growing medium and construction details;
- a copy of the maintenance plan as required in the Toronto Green Roof Construction Standard;
- detailed construction drawings/roof plan;
- 5-year maintenance contract or equivalent assurance;
- current photo of existing roof.
Other Things to Note:
Applications must be approved prior to commencing any work on the roof. Projects that have started, or are complete, may not be eligible for funding.
