Creative Export Canada – Canadian Heritage (2022)

Description:

Creative Export Canada offers annual funding for projects that help Canada’s creative industries reach more people around the world.

Ultimately, the program aims to increase export profitability for Canada’s creative industries.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to $2.5M per project. Maximum public funding is 75% for the same, eligible project-related costs. Due to the program’s extremely competitive nature, funded projects will likely receive less than 75% of total eligible project costs.

Projects must have a minimum total cost of $150,000 and be funded at a minimum of 25% by private sources (which can include applicant’s own contribution).

Amount limitations:

  • project-related administrative costs (e.g. general office supplies, mailing, and cloud storage costs), limited to a maximum of 15% of the total recommended amount;
  • project-related translation and interpretation expenses, limited to a maximum of 10% of the total amount of funding requested from the program.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be:

  • incorporated under the laws of Canada, a province or a territory,
  • be a for-profit company or not-for-profit organization;
  • a Canadian-owned and -controlled organization,
  • have a maximum of $500M in annual revenues; and
  • have a minimum of one full-time employee;
  • operate in the creative industries: audiovisual, design (limited to exhibit design, fashion design, artistic product design, public art design, urban design), interactive digital media (in combination with at least one of the industries listed above), music, performing arts, publishing, visual art;
  • hold the intellectual property rights for content.

Applicants must submit a complete application package which includes:

  • the Application Form
  • incorporation documents,
  • export plan
  • project budget
  • proof of intellectual property rights,
  • the most recent financial statements (unless justified),
  • written confirmation of other sources of funding and/or partnerships, if applicable.

Other Things to Note:

  1. The period for submitting a funding application for projects with expenses taking place between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023 is now closed.
  2. The previous application period was in the Fall of 2021. Check their website for further updates.
