Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Ecosystems and Oceans Science Contribution Framework

DFO’s Ecosystems and Oceans Science Contribution Framework provides funding to build expertise in ocean and freshwater science and technology in areas that support the mission of the Department to increase its understanding of ocean and freshwater environments. Through this, DFO seeks to better protect, sustain and restore fisheries resources as well as the aquatic ecosystems that support them.

Comments on Funding:

Funding takes the form of a contribution. Funding varies depending on priority areas call for proposal.

DFO is able to provide financial assistance for the following groups:

  • up to 50% of eligible costs per project for industry recipients, including business and industry associations;
  • up to 100% of eligible costs per project for Indigenous organizations or groups;
  • may be up to 100% of costs per project, otherwise DFO assistance shall not exceed 75% of eligible costs per project for Canadian not-for-profit organizations and community groups with 4 or fewer permanent employees, including no employees (0);
  • up to 75% of eligible costs per project for all other recipients.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be science organizations engaged in the management, conservation, protection and promotion of oceans and freshwater, including:

  1. Canadian post-secondary academic institutions;
  2. Canadian non-governmental organizations;
  3. Indigenous groups;
  4. Canadian provincial, territorial and municipal governments;
  5. businesses and industry, including associations;
  6. community groups;
  7. Canadian not-for-profit organizations;
  8. foreign governments and international non-governmental organizations;
  9. foreign academic institutions; and
  10. port authorities.
