IAPO Financing for Business Start Ups & Expansion Program (FNBSEP) (2022)

Description:

FNBSEP provides business financing and grants to qualified First Nations entrepreneurs, businesses and economic development corporations across Ontario to enhance community level economic development by supporting the success of high potential business start ups and expansions.

Areas of financing include: seed capital, start-up and early-stage loans, expansion capital, and business acquisition.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a loan of up to $100,000 and a grant of up to $10,000.
The grant is applied directly to the loan to either reduce the term and/or interest paid.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • Be First Nations members with valid Certificate of Indian Status, living on or off reserve
  • Be First Nations businesses (51%) majority owned
  • Be economic development corporations owned by a First Nation which are engaged in a for-profit business activity in Ontario are eligible
  • Be Ontario-based farm and agribusiness
  • Be all business sectors located in South Central and Eastern Ontario
  • Demonstrate that FNBSEP financing is required and that other sources of financing have been exhausted.
  • provide a minimum of 10% cash equity.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must provide:

  • Evidence of Aboriginal ancestry and other personal and project data, at the application stage
  • Evidence of equity and a business plan which should include a resume, demonstrated market potential and business viability, at the evaluation stage.

In addition to making regular loan payments, applicants will be required to submit annual status reports and annual financial statements. Any publicity about the project must include recognition of the AEDF program. All records of project expenditures must be retained.

Other Things to Note:

Funding, which extends until March 31, 2022, is provided through the Indigenous Economic Development Fund by the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs.
