Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) (2022)

Description:

The Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative supports Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs who are ready to launch agriculture and food systems projects and others who want to build their capacity to participate in the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is up to 90% of the project’s total eligible costs, to a maximum of $500,000 per project, per year or a maximum of $2.5 million over five years.

Eligible project costs will be cost-shared with the applicant. Applicant’s portion of the cost-share can be Cash and/or In-Kind Contributions.

Total government funding cannot exceed 100% of the project’s total eligible costs.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • Indigenous communities and governments (includes band and tribal councils, governments of self-governing First Nations, local governments of Inuit communities and Métis organizations)
  • Indigenous for-profit and not-for-profit corporations, associations, cooperatives and institutions
  • Indigenous businesses, partnerships and joint ventures
  • Capable of entering into legally binding agreements.

A budget, indicating all sources of funding for the project, will be required, and form part of your Proposal Form.

  1. Due to the high demand, the application intake period for the Indigenous Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative has been suspended.
