Musicaction – International Event

Description:

The International Event Program is intended for collective initiatives aimed at developing the careers of Canadian artists abroad. It supports the presentation and promotion of international showcases aimed at established export markets that are conducive to the musical genre presented. The performances must be presented in front of an audience made up of foreign professionals. Priority is given to projects based on an association with a foreign partner.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a maximum assistance of $60,000 per project. The aid may under no circumstances exceed 75% of the accepted costs or of the actual eligible costs if these turn out to be lower.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be:

  • an event or organization in Quebec;
  • a Canadian Francophonie event or organization;
  • any other company whose main activity is related to sound recording, insofar as the project justifies it.

Eligibility requirements:

  • The applicant and the artists targeted by the project must be Canadian;
  • The project must target several artists linked to different companies (record companies, management, publishing or show production) supported by the Canada Music Fund;
  • As a general rule, the artists concerned must have a sound recording marketed for at most 24 months at the time of the presentation of the showcase or to come in the next 3 months;
  • This sound recording must comply with Canadian and Francophone content standards and be the subject of a physical or digital distribution recognized by Musicaction or be licensed with a company funded under the Global Funding Envelope program . It must not contain any element of violence or serious or gratuitous sexual exploitation, not be obscene, indecent, or pornographic as defined in the Criminal Code and not be hateful, defamatory or otherwise illegal;
  • The applicant must not be in default of payment;
  • The applicant must provide all the documents required to constitute or update a master file, in particular financial statements meeting the standards in force concerning financial statements;
  • One of the partners associated with the project must have recognized expertise in the production of musical showcases;
  • The artists must have been the subject of a specific invitation from the foreign programmer;
  • If it is a selection made by a Canadian applicant, the relevance and impartiality of the selection process must be demonstrated;
  • As a general rule, showcases must take place outside of Canada. They may exceptionally take place in Canada if they take place within the framework of a major event not supported by Musicaction.

Applications Steps:

Documentation Needed:

The applicant must submit the following required documents in support of the application:

  1. The Declarations tab of the form duly signed by the applicant;
  2. Agreements signed with the partner event, media partners or other;
  3. The Project, Budget and Balance Sheet and Artists tabs duly completed; and
  4. On request only, a copy of sound recordings not financed by Musicaction.

Filing of completion:

  1. In other cases, the applicant must, no later than three months following the end of the project, submit by email to para@musicaction.ca , its completion by completing the form in Excel format sent when the project is accepted. This form includes a statement of income and expenses associated with carrying out the project, a summary table of each of the expenses incurred and an activity report;
  2. The completion must be explicit on the direct benefits of the project for the selected artists. Musicaction reserves the right to demand from the applicant the concrete results of the operation carried out and this, 6 months or more after this one;
  3. The applicant must also send all the following documents:
  4. The Declarations tab of the duly signed form;
    a) A copy of the letter of acceptance from any other source of funding;
    b) A press kit for the event, if applicable;
    c) A copy of the promotional tools developed, if applicable;
    d) Fixed screen captures showing the web activities carried out; and
    e) Advertising contracts with proof of publication, if applicable.
  5. Following the completion analysis, the applicant must submit a copy of all invoices and proof of payment selected and required by the administration;
  6. As a general rule, this first sample of coins corresponds to 50% of the lesser of these two amounts:
    a) The total expenses submitted, presented in the balance sheet;
    b) The total expenditure required to justify the total amount of the commitment, according to the percentage of expenditure covered by the program.
  7. For each inadmissible document, the corresponding amount is inadmissible and cut from the balance sheet. Other documents may then be required to reach the level of verification required and, depending on the case, it may reach 100% of the expenses submitted to the report;
  8. The originals of the invoices and proof of payment must be kept by the applicant for a period of five years following the end of the project and are due at any time;
  9. Accepted proofs of payment are:
    a) Cleared checks or check imaging;
    b) Copies of checks and bank statement showing the transaction;
    c) Internet payment and debit card: bank statement;
    d) Payment by credit card: monthly card statement.

Other Things to Note:

The project must be completed within nine months of its acceptance.
