NSERC – National Quantum Strategy: Alliance Consortia Quantum Grants
Description:
Alliance Consortia Quantum grants will support the development of large-scale domestic research collaborations in quantum science and technology by enhancing synergy across Canada’s regional quantum research and innovation hubs, with the additional aim to connect with industrial applications and government needs. These grants will enable collaborations between university researchers and partner organizations from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. This funding opportunity will be delivered through calls for proposals, of which Supporting coordinated quantum research and innovation across Canada is the first.
Comments on Funding:
Funding ranges from $500,000 to $1,000,000 million per year for a period between 3 to 5 years.
The partner organization must be recognized for cost-sharing with NSERC and must make cash contributions commensurate with the applicable cost-sharing ratio.
There are 2 cost-sharing options:
- in case of option 1, the partner’s contribution must be:
a) 50% for large organizations (as a sole partner organization) from any sector (private, public or not-for-profit);
b) 50% for large organizations in partnership exclusively with other large organizations within the same sector;
c) 66.7% for large organizations in partnership with other large organizations from a different sector;
d) 66.7% for large organizations in partnership with SMEs from any sector;
e) 66.7% for SMEs as a sole partner organization from any sector;
f) 66.7% for SMEs in partnership with other organizations of any size and from any sector. - in case of Option 2, NSERC offers funding for 100% of the project costs (Value: over $30,000 to $300,000 per year). The partners can be from any sector and the partnership must include at least one partner organization that could be recognized for cost-sharing, although a cash contribution is not required.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be Canadian university researchers who are eligible to receive NSERC funds. They can apply with a team of co-applicants who are also eligible academic researchers.

- a National Security Guidelines for Research Partnerships’ risk assessment form;
- the application for a grant: form 101;
- the proposal;
- a personal data form with CCV attachment (form 100A);
- the Impact Assessment Form (Appendix A).
