Description:
The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) is a program that provides repayable and non-repayable contributions. Its National Innovation Ecosystems stream will support large-scale national ecosystems through high impact collaborations between small, medium and large corporations, academic and research institutions, and not-for-profit organization to support Canadian innovation ecosystems.
Comments on Funding:
Funding is up to 50% of total eligible costs, except for Recipients that are academic institutions for which the contribution is up to 100% of eligible costs.
Funding will take the form of non-repayable contributions.
The combined level of assistance from all governments (federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal) to any one Recipient shall not normally exceed 75% of eligible costs, except for Recipients that are academic institutions for which the maximum combined level of assistance would be 100%.

Eligible applicants include Networks and Consortia (e.g. Canadian Universities and/or Colleges, research institutes, for-profit corporations, and/or not-for-profit entities) consisting of multiple members located throughout Canada.

Applicants must:
must check their eligibility by completing the SIF self-screening questionnaire. If their project meets the SIF eligibility requirements, they will be given the opportunity to consult with ISED.

must request a pre-submission consultation before applying to discuss the proposal and help determine if it is a good fit for SIF. Following the pre-submission consultation, applicants will be informed on whether they will be invited to the next step.
must submit:
a) a Statement of Interest (SOI) with a high-level overview of the proposed project. Based on the SOI, applicants will be provided with feedback on whether they will be invited to Step 2 – Full application.
b) a full application, outlining in greater detail the project proposal. Information provided on this form will be used to complete the project due diligence and benefits assessment.
will sign a Contribution Agreement with ISED laying out the legally binding responsibilities and obligations of both parties, if their project is approved,
Project proposals require a lead applicant, which will be responsible for submitting a Statement of Interest and a full application if advised to advance to Step 2 of the process, as well as managing the project for the duration of the SIF agreement.
