Telefilm Canada – International Promotion Program

Description:

This program, formerly the Participation in international festivals and events support program, offers financial support to Canadian producers, distributors, and sales with projects officially selected at an international festival, as well as producers invited to an international coproduction forum and to present a project as part of one of its international initiatives.

The Program reflects Telefilm’s priority of supporting the Canadian film industry to achieve new levels of success by supporting the marketing and promotion of Canadian content and talent abroad.

Comments on Funding:

Funding will take the form of a non-refundable contribution to cover the eligible costs per project:

  • up to $40,000 for Feature Films;
  • up to $4,000 for Short Films;
  • up to $25,000 for Television projects;
  • up to $5,000 for Extended Reality (XR) projects

Funding is also provided to producers/directors covering the travel expenses for their participation in the applicable event:

  • up to $2,000 per individual per event;
  • up to $ 4,000 per event to a maximum of three (3) events

In exceptional circumstances and subject to the overall availability of funds, Telefilm may take into consideration financing requests exceeding the cumulative maximum of $40,000 for extraordinary international marketing campaigns. Such campaigns are generally for projects selected at the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the BAFTA or the Césars in the category of “Best Film” or “Best Foreign Film” or at other major international festivals or markets.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

  • be a producer, distributor or sales agent of an eligible project;
  • be a Canadian-controlled company within the meaning of the Investment Canada Act and have its head office in Canada.

Applications Steps:

  • Applicants must submit a duly completed application form with all the required supporting materials electronically via Dialogue. All subsequent documentation must also be submitted electronically via Dialogue.
  • Applicants should submit their duly completed applications at least three weeks prior to the opening day of the festival or event for which a financial contribution is being requested. In all cases, applications must be submitted before the holding of the festival or event in which the applicants wish to participate.

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:

  • Official letter from the Festival (or Event organizer, as applicable);
  • Official letter or email from the Festival;
  • Formal invitation letter from Telefilm Canada;
  • Invitation letter from the Coproduction Market;
  • Letter from the production company;
  • URL Link to the Project; and
  • Declaration of the production company regarding the Canadian content of the project.

The following documents are required if they have been updated or modified since the applicant company’s last funding application to Telefilm Canada:

  • Incorporation documents;
  • Corporate declaration.
