FedDev Ontario – Community Economic Development and Diversification Stream under Rural Growth and Innovation in Southern Ontario

The Community Economic Development and Diversification Stream aims to generate sustainable, inclusive growth and help small and rural communities to fully participate in, and benefit from economic opportunities.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a non-repayable contribution of $250,000 up to $5 million per project for not-for-profit organizations .
Funding is a no interest, repayable contribution from $250,000 up to $5 million per project for incorporated businesses, including Indigenous businesses.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • not-for-profit organizations, that support community economic development and/or diversification. They may include:
    a) Indigenous organizations.
    b) Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs).
    c) Co-operatives
    d) Municipalities and other municipal-type organizations.
    e) A group or an alliance such as an industry association or consortium that is a legal entity capable of entering into a contribution agreement.
    f) Business accelerators and incubators.
    g) Other not-for-profit organizations, as determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • legally incorporated businesses, including Indigenous-owned businesses; and
  • located in southern Ontario.

Applicants must submit completed applications with prescribed documentation containing all information needed which will undergo a due diligence process.

Other Things to Note:

Special consideration may be given to applications that support:

  1. Priority sectors and clusters, or projects that reinforce Ontario’s economic and innovation strengths.
  2. Firms to better integrate into domestic and global markets.
  3. Underrepresented groups, including women entrepreneurs, youth, Indigenous peoples, Official Language Minority Communities (OLMCs), persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, LGBTQ2+ communities, and visible minorities.
