Clean Foundation – Science Horizons

Description:

The Science Horizons Internship Program, generously funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada, is a wage subsidy initiative that matches graduates, under the age of 30, with positions across Canada that help combat climate change.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is a wage subsidy of up to $25,000 per intern hired. Clean Foundation will subsidize 50% of each intern’s salary, up to a maximum of 80% for youth from employment equity groups (Women; Visible minority youth; Indigenous youth; Youth living with disabilities; Youth from Official Language Minority Communities (OLMC); and Youth residing in a rural or remote location).
The employer must be able to contribute at least 20% of the total cost of each internship.

Eligibility:

Employers must:

  • be able to contribute at least 20% of the total cost of each internship;
  • be able to create a position with an environmental focus for an individual who does not currently work at their organization;
  • be able to host an internship between 6-12 months;
  • be located anywhere in Canada;
  • be able to supervise and mentor an intern utilizing a formal training plan;
  • be:
    a) not-for-profit organizations (including voluntary organizations and foundations);
    b) for-profit organizations;
    c) indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities);
    d) provincial, territorial, regional and municipal governments, and their departments, agencies, institutions and crown corporations, where applicable;
    e) public health, educational (including post-secondary educational institutions) and cultural organizations; or,
    f) individuals.

Interns must:

  • be no more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship;
  • have graduated from a post-secondary program;
  • be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or persons who have been granted Refugee status in Canada;
  • not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) during the internship;
  • not currently be working for the hiring organization.
