Electricity Human Resources Canada – Welcoming Newcomers

Description:

Welcoming Newcomers is a wage subsidy program and incentive for employers to recruit professionally skilled, internationally trained workers. A four-month internship with a wage subsidy of up to 50%, or $10,000 maximum, is available to eligible employers.

Funding is a wage subsidy of up to 50%, or $10,000 maximum.

Eligibility:

The employers must be:

  • firms who are seeking to hire full-time permanent newcomers;
  • firms whose primary activity is one of the following;
    a) generation, transmission and distribution of electricity;
    b) sector support including renewables, in any of the following areas: R & D, business development, energy efficiency;
    c) engaged in the manufacturing of equipment and the provision of services necessary to electricity;
  • post-secondary institutions (universities, colleges or polytechnics) supporting the electricity industry.

Workers must be:

  • newcomers to Canada in the past ten (10) years who have been educated and/or developed professional experience internationally; and
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or newcomers/refugees with a valid open work permit.

Applications Steps:

Applicants must apply via the Funding For Futures Platform. The platform will take users through a step-by-step application and documentation process in an interactive, web-based environment when applying, monitoring, and managing their wage subsidy application.
