Relay – Green Careers Program

Description:

The Green Careers program offers opportunities for youth to explore and build exciting careers in sustainability, energy, and environmental industries. It offers the Green Internships program which is helping young people gain skills and work experience with paid positions at environmental businesses. This program will subsidize the salary for internship positions at environmental organizations.

Comments on Funding:

Funding is 80% of intern’s wages up to a maximum of $25,000 and up to $32,000 if the intern or position is considered to be furthest from employment including Indigenous youth, youth with disabilities, and youth from northern, rural, and remote communities.

Funding can be applied to wages, as well as relevant training/certifications for the participant, or required PPE for the position 

Eligibility:

Employers must:

  • be businesses or not-for-profit organizations that operates in Natural Resources, Environmental Protection, Clean Technology, Renewable Energy;
  • provide overall work that has a positive environmental outcome;
  • be small to medium-sized organization (fewer than 100 employees);
  • be able to provide an internship between 6-12 months long with full-time hours;
  • be incorporated or registered in Canada.

Interns must be:

  • between the ages of 15-30;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have refugee status;
  • legally entitled to work in Canada.

Other Things to Note:

  1. They have filled 24 internship positions from July 2021 to today. They are not currently accepting applications from employers or candidates.
  2. The Green Internships Program is funded through Natural Resources Canada’s Science and Technology Internship Program.
