The Science Horizons Internship Program offers eligible employers salary coverage to create STEM-related job placement opportunities while helping to nurture the next generation of environmental leaders.

Comments on Funding:

Funding will cover up to 80% of a candidates wages.
Additional funding is available for wrap-around services.

Applicants/host organizations must:

  • Be Canadian owned, Canadian subsidiary, Municipal or Provincial Government Department,
  • provide a new full-time, permanent, environmentally-related position in STEM for candidates aged 30 or younger, 
  • Hire a new employee.
  • hire a candidate that has graduated from post-secondary institute and is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or has refugee status.

Interns must:

  • Be 30 years of age or younger,
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status,
  • currently unemployed or underemployed, or a student/recent graduate,
  • have a post-secondary accomplishment (some exceptions apply),
  • not be an existing fulltime permanent employee.

Applications Steps:

Applicants must:


Take the eligibility Quiz and complete the online host application to get approved,


Find a Candidate for the approved position and have them apply (Employer hosts and approved Candidate become linked and contracts are issued.),

ECO Canada customer support team will finalize the match with the new hire. 

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must have the following information in order to apply:

  • salary information;
  • role descriptions;
  • a professional development training plan.

Interns interested in getting a pre-approval status as an ECO Employment Programs Candidate must provide the following in their application:

  • education history;
  • current employment status;
  • an updated resume.

Other Things to Note:

    The Science Horizons Internship, Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Employability Pathways are open for applications. Candidates wishing to apply for Digital Skills for Youth may be waitlisted at this time.

    ECO Canada, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada, provides wage funding for employers looking to onboard young professionals for full-time work placements and job training.
