Ontario’s Beef Cattle Financial Protection Program provides financial protection to beef cattle sellers when a buyer defaults on payment.

Beef cattle sellers and buyers can be beef cattle producers, cooperatives or licensed dealers.

Applicants must be:

1. Buyers of beef cattle
a. To buy beef cattle, you must be a beef cattle producer or a licensed dealer.
b. Licensed dealers can include:
i. Packing plant operators
ii. Abattoir operators
iii. Auction market operators
iv. Fair operators
v. Exhibition operators
vi. Country dealers

2. Seller of beef cattle
a. Including cooperatives selling their cattle to a licensed dealer must pay a remittance fee on each sale
b. Sellers can also be licensed dealers (and must also remit a fee), including:
i. Packing plant operators
ii. Abattoir operators
iii. Auction market operators
iv. Fair operators
v. Exhibition operators
vi. Country dealers

Application Steps:

Applicants must submit the claim no later than 30 business days from date of sale.
