Description:

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation component of the Commemorate Canada program provides funding (up to a maximum of $10,000 per organization) to eligible recipients for initiatives that increase awareness and commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30).

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:
1. an Indigenous government, band council, or tribal council, or its delegated authority
2. an Indigenous not-for-profit organization or group
3. a for-profit Indigenous organization, provided that the project for which you are requesting funding will not result in income generation for your sole benefit
4. an Indigenous ad hoc committee that has formed for a specific project
5. an Indigenous-led institution including accredited programs
6. Non-Indigenous applicants are considered in exceptional circumstances, as determined by the Program. The organization must work in close partnership with an Indigenous organization and include a letter of support outlining their role in the project.
7. In the case of partnerships, one organization must assume the lead role and responsibility for the overall management and coordination of the project.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:
1. read the Application Guidelines in their entirety before completing their application
2. Complete, sign and date the Application Form (electronic signatures are accepted).
3. submit application by email to commemorationpensionnats-commemorationresidentialschools@pch.gc.ca

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:
1. completed and signed application form (parts A, B, C, and D);
2. proof of legal status, which can include letters patent, incorporation documents (when required);
3. Direct Deposit Form (if you have not yet completed one, or if your information has changed – Annex 1);
4. delegation of Signing Authority or acceptable alternate documentation (part E); and
5. Unincorporated Applicant Acceptance of Responsibility Form (only in the case of an unincorporated group – part F).
