Description:

The Ontario Creates Magazine Fund supports the business development of independent Ontario-based magazine publishers. Funds are provided to assist in the growth of these businesses through the creation and implementation of new strategic initiatives that enable publishers to achieve business development and/or marketing objectives. Eligible projects should have clear, objective and measurable results.

Comments on Funding:

Successful applicants are eligible to receive up to $80,000, depending on eligible sales revenue, capped at 75% of the total project budget.

Eligibility:

Applicants must:

1. be a magazine publisher, publishing at the time of application;
2. derive more than 50% of the Company’s revenue from magazine revenues and
related brand extension of the core magazine business (i.e., events, trade shows,
website, television properties);
3. be Ontario-based, with its central place of business located in Ontario and pay
Ontario corporate taxes;
4. be at least 75% Canadian-owned and -controlled;
5. be incorporated in a Canadian jurisdiction at the time of application submission;
6. be in good standing with Ontario Creates at time of application submission;
7. have a minimum sales revenue of $20,000; and
8. be financially solvent at the time of application.

Application Steps:

Applications must be submitted via the Ontario Creates Online Application Portal (OAP). Applications submitted by any other method will not be accepted

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must submit:
1. Articles of Incorporation or Master Business Licence;
2. If available, financial statements for the most recently completed fiscal year
(Notice-to-Reader and Compilation Engagement statements are preferred, but
internally-prepared profit & loss statements will be accepted.) Budget template
(provided by Ontario Creates); and
3. Detailed Timeline/Action Plan that includes the following information:
Relevant project tasks or milestones; staff resources/leads; activity start date;
activity end date
4. At least two of the following pieces of supporting documentation:
a. Resumes/CVs of founders or key management personnel;
b. Marketing materials/press clippings;
c. Social media metrics (to demonstrate audience reach/growth potential);
d. Letters of support;
e. Corporate slide deck;
f. Business/marketing/strategic plan.
