Description:
The program funds independent Francophone media artists and filmmakers in Ontario seeking to develop or produce new works in film, video, audio art, digital media, new media, and video and electronic games. Projects must be in French and intended for a Francophone audience. Works must be independently produced and the applicant must be the primary creative artist/director and retain full creative freedom and copyright. This program does not fund works intended for commercial film, television, and the gaming industries.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be:
1. Leading media artists and directors who:
a. resident in Ontario
b. have completed the required number of independent works for their application profile (early career, mid-career or established – see Definitions )
c. decide on their own initiative what work will be created and make their own decisions about it
d. collaborate or not with a producer
e. own the copyright to the work
i. Contracts entered into with producers and other funders, including those entered into after confirmation of a CAO grant, must not require the artist to assign his or her rights.
2. Collaborations in which two or more people share equal creative decision-making, such as co-directors – but the application must be completed by one person. The lead applicant must provide the requested information about the collaborator(s) (name, address and CV) and specify the nature of the collaboration. If the application is successful, the lead applicant will assume full responsibility for the grant and the cheque will be made payable to the lead applicant only. The person named as a co-creator in an application cannot be the lead applicant or collaborator in another application submitted by the same deadline.
3. Graduate students pursuing a professional artistic career are eligible for this program. You must provide a letter from the department chair confirming that the project you are considering is not part of your program of study.
Application Steps:
Applicants must complete and submit an application in Nova, OAC’s online grant application system. You will be able to do this approximately two months before the deadline.
Documentation Needed:
Applicants must submit:
1. basic information about the project
2. answers to the questions asked in the application form
3. the project budget
4. artistic examples:
a. Early career artists: 1 example of audiovisual artistic work.
b. Mid-career and established artists: 2 examples of audiovisual artistic works.
5. supporting documents:
a. CV or biographical note of the candidate and of the main collaborators or participants (including that of a mentor if applicable).
b. Detailed budget or budget notes according to category.
c. Letters of understanding, confirmation or recommendations.
d. Installation sketches, storyboards or design documents (video games and virtual reality).
