Description:

The Translation component of Arts Abroad funds the translation of Canadian literary works or dramatic works for international presentation or publication.

Comments on Funding:

Funding will take the form of a grant of up to $20,000 for each translation.

Application Assistance funding is available for persons who are experiencing difficulty and self-identify as:
– an artist who is Deaf, hard of hearing, has a disability or is living with a mental illness;
– a First Nations, Inuit or Métis artist facing language, geographic and/or cultural barriers.

Deadline:

April 2, 2025

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:
1. international literary publishers and theatre organizations,
2. theatre and multidisciplinary groups and collectives,
3. theatre companies and dramaturgical organizations,
4. multidisciplinary organizations.

Theatre organizations presently receiving core (operating) grants can apply to this component. Other organizations presently receiving core (operating) grants cannot apply.

Application Steps:

Applicants must create an account and submit one or more profile(s) for validation at least 30 days before applying

Documentation Needed:

Applicants must provide:
1. information about their project and its potential impact, and their budget,
2. information about their promotion plan, for literary translations,
3. a copy of the original book or script, 4. the translator’s biography,
5. and for literary works a signed copy of a contract with the Canadian publisher, author, literary agent or translation rights holder.

Other Things to Note:

Application limits – One can receive grants for up to 2 translations per year (1 March – 28/29 February).
