Description:

Businesses in Toronto may be eligible for a rebate on water that is used on-site for their industrial, commercial or institutional processes. The rebate is based on the percentage of purchased drinking water not returned to the City via the sanitary sewer system and is applied to the sewer portion of the water rate.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) water customers that use purchased water for their on-site operations.

Application Steps:

Applicants must:

1. Submit a letter of intent by email to ssr@toronto.ca that includes:
a. Company name
b. Facility address
c. Contact information (full name, phone number, email address)
d. Water account number(s)
e. Water meter number(s)

2. Applicants will have nine months from the date the letter of intent is received by the City to submit the application with all required documentation to ssr@toronto.ca (see online application forms and reporting requirements section below). Applications must include:
a. all City forms stamped and certified by an independent licensed Professional Engineer of Ontario; and
b. all supporting material.

3. If all documentation and information is received within the nine-month period from Step 2, and the application is approved, the rebate will be retroactive to the date the letter of intent was received by the City.

If the application received is incomplete, and all additional information required to complete the submission is not received within 10 business days of being requested by the City, the rebate will be retroactive to the date all requested information required to complete the submission is received.

4. To continue to receive a rebate for the subsequent year after the initial year in the program, a renewal application must be submitted (except the letter of intent) to ssr@toronto.ca by February 1 of the following year. The application must contain all documentation including data from the most recent 12-month period.

If a renewal application is not received by February 1, the rebate will be adjusted and made retroactive to the date the renewal application is received.

Applications received later than September 30 will be processed together with the next year’s applications, and the rebate (if qualified) will apply to the year of application. The retroactive date will be the date the application was received. A new application is due on February 1 of the following year.

*All communications with respect to the current year’s application will be maintained with the facility owner and the Professional Engineer of Record
